Games against Frampton on Severn Youth and Charlton Kings Girls at Frampton on Severn Cricket Club on Sunday 6th September gave 21 Super 9s players a welcomed run out.
The day was dedicated to providing competitive matches for Gloucestershire’s County Disabled Cricket Teams (Javelins and Meteors). The morning saw Frampton Youth take on the Gloucestershire Javelins and in the afternoon, Gloucestershire Meteors played Charlton Kings Girls.
In the morning, James Elliott the Javelins’ captain agreed to bat first and openers Ben Wentworth and Sam Britton went to the wicket. Frampton managed to restrict the runs and on the 12th over Sam (9) retired and Ben (7) was out. James came to the crease and proceeded to add 29 to the score aided by James and Matt Bermingham and Henry Polley.
- Best of Batting James Elliott (29)
- Best Bowling Hannah Pritchard (1-2)
Frampton, chasing 122 opened with Joe Rowsell (17) and Jose Manquez (50 ret.) With great hitting from Frampton and accurate bowling from the Javelins the score mounted up. Best batters Jose (50 ret) and Jake Clack (31 *) Best bowlers Sam Britton (1-7) and Andy Nicolls (1-16). Frampton won by 6 wickets.
In the afternoon, the Meteors played a 10 a side pairs match against Charlton King Girls. The Meteors went in to bat first, and with Akif hitting several 4’s, and Jack and Luke a 6 each, the innings ended on 120 for 6.
- Best bowling Amelia.
During the innings there was a moment of confusion for the girls (and parents) when there were 2 batters each with runners on the pitch, but they adapted quickly and well.
In reply, Charlton King showed the Meteors how to run singles and rotate the strike as the score slowly mounted up before eventually securing a 17 run win.
- Best batting: Amelia and Daisy
- Best bowling: Andre
Final Score: Charlton Kings 152 Meteors 125
Both matches were enjoyed by numerous spectators and players and played in a wonderful spirit.
These were the final games of the Meteors and Javelins season and a big thank you goes to Frampton on Severn Cricket club for hosting the games (and weekly training sessions), Debi Howell and David McDermott for organising the opposition and all the players, coaches, parents and officials.
