Gloucestershire Girls U13s dig deep for fine win

GLOUCESTERSHIRE Girls U13s battled back from a slow start to complete a tremendous 91-run friendly victory against Worcestershire at Wycliffe College.

The home side, who won the toss, were struggling at 20-4 before captain Taylor Hodgson (41) and Prarthana Reddy (43) shared a stand of 142 to help their side reach 227 all out.

In reply, Worcestershire were bowled out for 119 thanks to the combined efforts of Sophie Smith Graham (3-14 from four), Taylor (2-8), Abigail Bryan (2-9) and Prarthana (2-10).

Gloucestershire Girls U18s also enjoyed victory over Worcestershire, easing in by five wickets at Thornbury.

Useful knocks from opener Chloe Skelton (51 retired), Katie Jones (42), Emilia Powell (35), Betsy Mangan (31) and Lily Day (27 not) lifted the home side to an excellent total of 253-5 from 25.

And the visitors were then restricted to a reply of 109 as Rachel Le Poidevin struck with a burst of 5-24, P Bradford and Greer Barnes also capturing two wickets apiece.

Gloucestershire Girls U15s suffered their first ECB Group Nine reverse of the summer, going down by 15 runs at home to Somerset at Chipping Sodbury.

Emily Murray (2-5) and Aimee Aikenhead (2-11) shone as Somerset were bowled out for 100 but it proved to be a winning total despite the efforts of Bethan Manning (16) before the last wicket pair of Aimee (10 not) and Sophie Granville-George (10) threatened to complete a stunning win.

The Girls U15 Development squad, meanwhile, completed two fine away victories against Buckinghamshire.

The visitors were 37-run victors in a 15-over clash, Daisy Romanek (29 not) and Olivia McMorris (22) top scoring before Olivia captured 2-2 from her two overs.

And Gloucestershire were also six-wicket victors over the same opponents who were bowled out for 47 by Abigail Woodworth (3-7), Daisy (2-0 from three), Chris Oram (2-2) and Bethany Clark (2-10).
