JAMES Elliott top scored with 24 and Matt James (pictured, image courtesy Ian Rice) hit 21 on debut as Gloucestershire Javelins battled hard before going down to an 11-run reverse against Somerset at Stinchcombe in their first match of the season.
Sam Britton, who was also making his first appearance for the county’s disabled team, made his mark with 13, as Gloucestershire left themselves a bit too much to do at the end of this Super 9 South West Group match.
Earlier Somerset, who lost the toss, reached 112-6 from their 35 overs, Russell Young hitting 22 and Jon Tucker 17.
Gloucestershire’s bowling attack was led by Nathan Ridley who finished with excellent figures of 2-10 from seven overs while James Elliott supported well with a return of 2-24, also from seven, with Matt James and Sam Britton taking a wicket apiece.
Gloucestershire’s next two matches are away, against Dorset on June 27 and Wales on July 11, before returning to Stinchcombe for dates against the Isle of Wight on July 18 and Wales on July 27.
The squad practises at Upton St Leonards CC every Wednesday (5-7pm) and new members of all abilities are always welcome.
Gloucestershire also have a Super 9 development squad, the Meteors, along with providing Super 1 cricket.
