Max, 15, hammers a record breaking 238*!

RECORDS were sent tumbling as 15-year-old Max Richards smashed an unbeaten 238 for Winterbourne 4ths!

The opener thumped 37 fours and a six on his way to the highest individual score this season in the Martin Birrell Bristol & District League.

And the innings, at home to local rivals Frampton Cotterell 2nds in Division Ten, was also a Winterbourne record, surpassing Keith Ford’s 227 in 2018.

Max, who is playing this week for Gloucestershire under-15s and attends Winterbourne Acdemy, almost doubled his previous best of 121 which was also compiled for Winterbourne 4ths last summer.

The innings helped his side pile up a remarkable 464-1 from their 40 overs, captain Kevin Slade hitting 79 in an opening stand of 223, while Max shared an unbroken partnership of 241 with Rob Corin (71).

In reply, Frampton were restricted to 167-8 as Winterbourne romped in by 297 runs to remain clear at the top of the table.

Father Andy said: “Max hadn’t picked up a bat for two-to-three weeks after twice being ‘pinged’ this month so we decided to go up to SixSixes Cricket in the morning for a net, just to get his arms moving again.

“To be honest, he didn’t bat particularly well but it must have done the trick!”
