Week 11 Bristol & District review

SHIREHAMPTON, without a win since the opening day of the season, stunned high-flying Bradley Stoke by ten runs in the Senior Division of the Martin Berrill Bristol & District League.

The competition’s bottom club battled their way to 176-8 thanks to opener Adam Geddes (45) before late runs from Lewis Palmer (24) and Charlie Shortman (21 not).

Owen Onslow (3-23 from nine) led the way for Bradley Stoke who then came up just short against Shortman (3-23), Palmer (2-13) and Ken Earl (2-30) while captain John Stilwell sent down nine overs of spin for only 15 runs.

Shire stay in tenth place but are now only 13 points behind Coalpit Heath who slipped to a seven-wicket reverse at home to Keynsham 2nds.

Leaders Bedminster 2nds had to work hard for a one-wicket home success over Claverham who were bowled out for 115, Lewis Mason starring with 3-15 off nine before adding a crucial unbeaten 31.

Frenchay remain in the runners-up slot thanks to a six-wicket victory away to Clevedon 2nds, Alex Stell claiming 5-18 from eight.

Division One pacesetters Winterbourne 2nds overcame nearest rivals Hanham by two wickets to foil Ross Robbins (4-16 from eight), allowing Knowle 2nds to leap into second place thanks to a four-wicket win away to Bath 3rds where Joe Milkins (43 not) and Krish Kumar (42) were the batting heroes.

Pakistani Express pulled clear at the top of Division Three after a six-wicket home defeat of nearest rivals Bristol West Indian Phoenix 2nds, Sohail Ahmed finishing with figures of 4-39.

Hambrook took advantage to go second courtesy of a six-wicket victory at home to Bedminster 3rds, Cameron Perry (67 not) and Krunal Visavadia (54) sharing a stand of 91.

Old Down’s lead at the top of Division Four was cut following a four-wicket home reverse against Winterbourne 3rds.

Hussnain Sajid’s excellent figures of 7-13 from 4.4 overs reduced Old Down to 58 all out before Alex Duncan (22 not) got the visitors over the line.

And in Division Seven, Jack Stone’s fine spell of 5-9 from eight overs inspired leaders Keynsham 3rds to a 40-run victory away to high-flyers Thornbury 3rds.
