Week 14 Gloucestershire County League review

WILL Gegg finished with tremendous figures of 7-28 as Sheepscombe rallied for a superb 51-run home victory against Cheltenham 3rds in Division Four of the Greene King IPA Gloucestershire County League.

The visitors were well set at 122-3 when Gegg joined the attack and made an instant impact, taking two wickets in his first over and sparking a collapse to 175 all out.

Gegg’s figures, off only 5.5 overs, are the second best in the league this summer with only Woodmancote’s Paul Turner faring better with a return of 7-15 on the opening day of the season.

Chris Williams (62) and Hector Millar (40 not) had earlier top scored in the home side’s 226-9.

Captain Andy Bevan’s 103 saw Dymock to a five-wicket home win over Chipping Sodbury 2nds, while Tewkesbury 2nds stretched clear at the top with a seven-wicket home triumph over nearest rival Cheltenham Civil Service 2nds, captain Matt Cox unbeaten on 70.

Another batsman to shine was opener Tom Stevens who finished unbeaten on 120 for Woodpeckers, paving the way for a 113-run Division Three home win over Frampton-on-Severn.

Leaders Rockhampton 2nds edged their Bourton Vale counterparts by 11 runs, Will Cartlidge unbeaten on 102.

And it was also tight at Ullenwood Bharat who overcame promotion rivals Fairford by three wickets thanks to Mahesh Shetty (44) and Jitesh Thammisetti (41 not).

Josh Morris’ burst of 5-20 from eight saw Lydney fold from 120-2 to 147 all out and a 47-run setback at Chipping Sodbury in Division One.

The top two of Charlton Kings and Tewkesbury both lost but stay where they are.

Kings went down by six wickets at home to Cheltenham 3rds while Tewkesbury were defeated by seven wickets at Poulton, Liam James taking 4-34 ahead of Tobias Jump (53) and Liam Smith (50) sharing an unbroken partnership of 108.

Hawksbury Upton, the Division Two leaders at the start of the day, were bowled out for 105 at home to Redmarley who romped in by five wickets, Aidan Hawkesworth finishing with 5-30 from eight.

Chipping Campden took advantage to reclaim pole position thanks to a 77-run success at Woodmancote, opener Jack Groves thumping 107 off 76 (13 fours, two sixes).

Andy Kear, meanwhile, returned 6-12 from eight for Lydney 2nds who dismissed Minchinhampton for 68 and a 60-run victory in Division Five.

One of the tightest finishes of the day came in Division Six where Haresfield Gladiators held their nerve for a one-wicket home success over Quedgeley & Hardwicke.
