Week 5 Bristol & District review

LAHIRU Perera cracked an unbeaten 101 to continue his fine start to the season for Bristol Sri Lankans who eased past Pak Bristolians 2nd by eight wickets to stay top of Division Five in the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.

Perera faced just 69 balls and thumped 12 fours and four sixes as his side chased down a target of 244 in less than 28 overs.

It was the batter’s second ton of the summer and took him past 400 league runs in only five visits to the crease.

Will Stabb (101 not) and David Busby (92) put on 220 for the third wicket for Frenchay 2nds who finally opened their account with a 117-run home win against Brislington 3rds.

Tom Croucher (4-16 from six) and Sonny Reynolds (3-14 from seven) followed up with important spells for Frenchay.

Senior Division pacesetters Bristol West Indian Phoenix overcame Keynsham 2nds by 27 runs, paceman Omar Wiggins taking 4-21 from eight.

Stapleton, second at the start of the day, slipped up with a six-wicket home reverse after being bowled out for only 110 by Timsbury.

This result enabled Frenchay to nip in behind BWIP following a ten-wicket humbling of Winterbourne 2nds.

Chare Smith (4-37) and Eddie Williams (3-17) led the way before Waghela Praful took charge of the reply with an unbeaten 72 off only 35 (15 fours and a six).

Coalpit Heath are off the bottom of the table after their first win – a seven-wicket victory at Hanham who were dismissed for 119.

Aaron Neal (5-36 from nine) made his mark ahead of Tom Williams (46 not) guiding his side over the finish line.

Division One leaders Bristol Pakistanis completed a 50-run home victory against Shirehampton, Sohan Shatrughna Labade taking 5-16 from eight.

George Wilshire was out two runs short of his ton for Bitton who trumped OB Westbury by 72 runs in Division Three.

Conor Andrew and Will Webster were both dismissed for 90 in Golden Hill 3rds’ 144-run home success over Taveners in Division Seven.

And in Division Eight, Aravind Sundar produced one of the bowling spells of the day, capturing 6-14 from eight, to set up an eight wicket win for leaders Bristol Eagles against Winterbourne 4ths.

Also in fine form with the ball was Jen Rivers, a member of Gloucestershire Girls’ under-15 squad, who took 5-7 from 7.5 overs for leaders Bradley Stoke 3rds in a 69-run home defeat of Winford Old Caths in Division Ten.
