Week 9 Bristol & District review

HARRY Gunning and Jason Cryans shared an opening stand of 253 for Bedminster 5ths against Brislington 4ths in Division 12 of the Martin Berrill Bristol & District League.

Gunning’s 140 came off 108 balls and included 10 fours and two sixes, while Cryans’ 117 came from just 79 balls and featured 18 fours and one maximum.

Bedminster piled up 288-2 ahead of Bris coming up 42 runs short, opener Robbie Dowding top scoring on 80.

In the Senior Division, leaders Bedminster 2nds eased past Timsbury by six wickets, Harry Drissell taking 5-29 from his nine, while Frenchay stay second despite a one-wicket home setback against Keynsham 2nds..

Bradley Stoke are up two places to third after trumping Clevedon 2nds by 68 runs.

Owen Onslow (67) and Dan Peachey (49) saw the South Gloucestershire side reach 218-7.

And Marcus Thatcher (3-31), Onslow (3-56), Dan Laver (2-10) and Ash Baber (2-19) then combined to good effect as Clevedon were dismissed for 150.

Roger Hooper (4-19) and son Dom (3-14) were the bowling heroes for Claverham in an 88-run home success over bottom side Shirehampton while Syed Shah’s unbeaten 77 took Pak Bristolians to a five-wicket win at home to Coalpit Heath.

Unbeaten Division One pacesetters Winterbourne 2nds secured a low-scoring two-wicket home victory over their Downend counterparts, Jamie Studley taking 3-12.

And it was even closer at Lodway where Hanham squeezed in by one wicket off the final ball, Ross Robbins top scoring on 78 for the visitors.

Bristol 3rds’ 186-run home defeat of Bristol Lions in Division Five featured an array of fine personal performances.

Openers Adam Lee (109) and Mike Love (102 not) took their side to 261-1 off 40 ahead of Lee following up with a return of 5-15 from five and Jack Power capturing 5-14 off 3.4.

One of the innings of the day came from Frazer Reeves who crashed 145 from 103 (18 fours, eight sixes) for Brislington 3rds who saw off Claverham 2nds by 39 runs.

Ryan Watts (108) and Adam Young (92) saw Pucklechurch to a tremendous 325-7 at home to Almondsbury 2nds in Division Six before Mitch Springer (5-11 off eight) wrapped up a 236-run win.
