The Gloucestershire Cricket Board (GCB) are delighted to announce the Women’s and Girls’ Winter Performance Training Squads for the upcoming 12 week programmes.

Early October saw indoor trials across the County, where the greatest number of trialists on record were seen across the age groups of U11’s, U13’s, U15’s, U17’s and County Women. Coaches feedback has been excellent and not only has the quantity increased but the quality certainly has across all ages.
The girls and women have been trialing to be selected for the Winter Performance Squads which sees them come together for a 12 week (24 hour) training programme. These programmes begin on January 10th and will be delivered to 118 players from across 32 clubs. This number is further testament to the quality being developed across the County with so many clubs now offering and providing opportunities for women and girls, much in the same way as they do for men and boys. This area continues to go from strength to strength with the GCB particularly excited about what comes next, in particular the appointment of a new full time Women & Girls Development Officer that will oversee the performance programme – more news to follow soon, watch this space!
Congratulations must go to everyone who has been selected and a big thank you to everyone else who trialed and who made the competition for places so very hard. Exact details for the programmes are currently being worked up and further information will come to all successful players by November 6th.
Further to this, we are delighted to announce County Development Soft Ball Trials for Under 11s for the very first time. The programme is designed to engage more girls at this age group and support their development through a 12 week winter training programme, which introduces them to and supports their transition to hard ball cricket. It is a really exciting opportunity which will further strengthen women and girls cricket going forward. Further details have been circulated directly to clubs but if you have any questions then please get in touch with Steve Silk.
